How much does it cost to go to Coachella in 2027? A real per-person budget

What one Coachella weekend really costs per person in 2027: pass prices with fees included, camping vs hotels, the shuttle, food inside, and how a group of four splits it.

A Coachella pass is the price everyone quotes, but the rest of the weekend can cost as much again, or more. Where you sleep, how you get to Indio, and what you eat inside a cashless festival where fries cost more than a movie ticket decide how much.

This post gives a per-person budget for one Coachella weekend in three tiers, using the 2027 pass prices that are already on the official site, plus what the camping, shuttle and hotel options really add, and how a group of four splits the costs that land on one person's card.

How much does it cost to go to Coachella? The short answer

For one weekend in 2027, budget roughly $854 per person if four friends car camp and drive in from Los Angeles, about $2,099 for a balanced weekend in a shared hotel room with a shuttle pass and flights to LA, and around $3,189 for VIP passes and a shared tent at Lake Eldorado, the on-site glamping area. The pass alone is $549 to $699 for general admission and $1,249 to $1,399 for VIP, with service fees now included in the posted price.

Coachella 2027 runs on two weekends, April 9 to 11 and April 16 to 18, with the same lineup both weekends. The lineup has not been announced yet. Pass prices below are the face values coachella.com listed in October 2026. The advance sale opened on May 1, 2026 and sold out quickly: general admission, VIP and the pass-plus-shuttle bundle are now all waitlist only, and the official waitlist uses dynamic pricing, so anyone buying now is on the waitlist or on resale. Camping, the shuttle pass and parking are still on sale.

The example is a group of four for one weekend: the budget tier on Weekend 2 general admission with one car-camping site, the balanced tier on Weekend 1 general admission with two shared hotel rooms, and the premium tier on VIP with one four-person tent:

The full cost breakdown

Passes

General admission for 2027 is $599, $649 or $699 for Weekend 1 and $549, $599 or $649 for Weekend 2, rising by tier as each one sells out. VIP is $1,299 or $1,399 for Weekend 1 and $1,249 or $1,349 for Weekend 2. Since California's all-in pricing rule in 2024, the price you see includes the service fee. Shipping is $16 per order on top.

A general admission pass bundled with a three-day shuttle costs $729 to $829 for Weekend 1 and $679 to $779 for Weekend 2, which is $20 less than buying the pass and the shuttle separately, so anyone staying in a hotel should check it first. A four-pack of general admission passes was sold at $589 per pass for Weekend 1 and $539 for Weekend 2, and has sold out.

Weekend 2 is consistently $50 cheaper for the same lineup. If your group is flexible, that is the easiest saving on the whole trip.

The payment plan

The 2027 advance sale let buyers pay for passes in installments: $49 down, then equal payments through January 2027, with a flat $55 plan fee on orders over $100. That pass plan closed on May 31, 2026, and passes bought from the waitlist or resale cannot go on a plan, so anyone buying a pass now pays in full. Camping, the shuttle pass and parking still show a payment plan option on coachella.com. If your group did buy passes on the plan, the fee is per order, not per pass. One friend buying four passes means one $55 fee instead of four, but that friend carries everyone else's passes until the payments clear.

Where you sleep: camping

Camping is the cheapest way to stay and the most Coachella way to do it. A car-camping pass is $160 for a 10 by 30 foot site, one car, and as many people as fit, for four nights. Split four ways, that is $40 each before the local occupancy tax that is added at checkout.

Upgrades cost more: preferred car camping is $420, front row $520 and powered sites $620. A pre-pitched Ready-Set tent for two is $690. At the top end, Lake Eldorado's four-person tent is $3,000, or $750 each, and La Campana is $2,600 for two or $3,300 for four. All camping prices add the occupancy tax, and an extra car in your group needs a $210 companion parking pass. New for 2027, group car camping bookings of 10 spots or more let each member pay for their own spot, which removes one of the biggest IOUs.

Where you sleep: hotels and rentals

Hotels in the Coachella Valley price the festival in. Kayak's data put the average Palm Springs hotel at about $392 a night on the 2025 festival weekends, and a 2026 forecast from tourism data firms put festival-weekend rates about 26 percent above 2025's and about 60 percent above the weekends just before the festival. Indio adds a transient occupancy tax of 10 percent at larger hotels and 13 percent at smaller places and short-term rentals.

The balanced tier assumes two rooms for three nights at that 2025 average, about $590 per person with two to a room. Add the occupancy tax and rising rates and it can land closer to $700, so treat it as a floor. A rental house split by a bigger group can come in lower per person. The official hotel packages bundle three or four nights with passes and the shuttle, for two to four people per room.

Getting to the desert and around

Flights into Palm Springs averaged about $392 round trip on the 2025 festival weekends, according to Kayak, against about $283 into Los Angeles, which is two to two and a half hours away by car without traffic. The budget tier assumes your group already lives in Southern California and drives in, splitting the car costs four ways; if you are flying in, add a flight on top, about $283 at the 2025 LAX average. The balanced tier flies to LAX and splits a rental car. Premium flies straight into Palm Springs.

If you are staying off site, the official shuttle pass is $150 and runs from a dozen hotel and park-and-ride stops. Preferred parking is $299. Day parking has no listed price but is not guaranteed, and cars left after 2 a.m. are towed. Rideshare drops and picks up at a dedicated lot, where the wait is longest from midnight to 2:30 a.m., which is also when demand, and usually prices, are highest.

Food and drink inside

Coachella is cashless, and the food is priced for a captive desert crowd. Posts from attendees in 2025 and 2026 showed fries at $28, a chicken sandwich at $30, a vodka Red Bull at $23 and a White Claw at $16. Treat those as the top of the range; there are cheaper stands, but not many.

Water is the exception. There are free filtered refill stations, and you can bring an empty plastic bottle up to 64 ounces. Bringing one is the single best money move inside the festival. Campers can also cook and eat at the campsite, which is why the budget tier spends only $120 for the weekend.

Locker, shipping and the rest

A general admission locker was $89 in 2026, with $10 back when you return the lock, and 2027 locker prices are not out yet. Add the $16 shipping fee, ice for the cooler, sunscreen, a portable charger and the camping gear you do not already own. Merch is its own line if anyone in the group is a collector.

What nobody budgets for at Coachella

  • The occupancy tax on camping. Every camping price is listed before tax, so the number at checkout is higher than the number on the page.
  • The waitlist premium. With general admission sold out, the official waitlist uses dynamic pricing, and resale often runs well above face value. Budget for the price you can actually buy at, not the tier 1 price.
  • The payment plan fee. If your group bought on the plan, $55 per order is small, but it is easy to forget who paid it and whether it was shared.
  • The 2 a.m. ride home. Rideshare demand peaks right when the last sets end, so the ride back to a hotel 30 minutes away can cost far more than the ride in did.
  • The extra night. Camping passes cover four nights, so campers arrive Thursday. Hotel guests who want to arrive with them, or beat the Friday traffic, pay for a fourth night.

Splitting a Coachella weekend without the group chat drama

Coachella's money shape is front-loaded. One person usually buys all the passes the minute the sale opens, sometimes on a payment plan, and someone else books the camping site or the hotel. By the time the festival arrives, two people have paid for almost everything and the rest of the group owes them for six months.

Then it gets uneven. The car camping site is one charge for the car, not per person. Gas is split by the people in the car. Inside, everything is on cards, so whoever taps for a round of drinks is quietly carrying three other people. And the person on the payment plan paid a fee nobody else saw.

Four rules keep it fair. Log every pass, site and room on the day it is paid, including any plan fee. Split shared charges, like the camping site, the gas and the hotel room, among the people they cover. Keep personal stuff personal: merch, the VIP upgrade one friend chose, the third vodka Red Bull.

Then settle once, after the weekend, in one pass. The math for that is in who owes who after a group trip, and the habits that stop it getting awkward are in group payment etiquette.

How groups keep it straight

Type "car camping 160 split with Anna, Ben and Kim" into the group chat on the day you book and it is logged and split. Or post a photo of the receipt or the order confirmation straight into the chat, the same way you would send a picture to friends, and HippoSplit reads it and files the expense with its items and total.

Uneven splits are where a caption helps. Post the gas receipt with "gas, only the four of us in the car" or the bar tab with "Ben's drinks his own" and the split follows. If one friend is on VIP and the others are not, set it once in the group's AI instructions, for example "Passes paid by each person, everything else four ways", and every expense the AI logs follows it.

The friend who refuses to install anything can open the group from a link and follow the running total as a guest without signing up; they see everything, and adding expenses needs a free account. When it is time to settle, HippoSplit works out the fewest payments to clear everything. If you are still at the budgeting stage, the free travel budget template has a per-person tab for exactly this.

Coachella cost FAQ

How much is a Coachella ticket for 2027?

General admission is $599 to $699 for Weekend 1 and $549 to $649 for Weekend 2, and VIP is $1,299 to $1,399 for Weekend 1 and $1,249 to $1,349 for Weekend 2, all including service fees, plus $16 shipping per order. Those are face values from the advance sale. General admission, VIP and the shuttle bundle are now waitlist only, so the official waitlist, which uses dynamic pricing, and resale are the routes left.

When is Coachella 2027?

Weekend 1 is April 9 to 11, 2027 and Weekend 2 is April 16 to 18, 2027, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The lineup is the same both weekends.

Is Weekend 2 cheaper than Weekend 1?

Yes. Every general admission tier is $50 cheaper on Weekend 2, and VIP is $50 cheaper too.

Can you pay for Coachella in installments?

For passes, only if you bought in the advance sale. The 2027 pass plan was $49 down, then equal payments through January 2027, with a $55 plan fee per order on orders over $100, and it closed on May 31, 2026. Waitlist and resale passes have to be paid in full. Camping, the shuttle pass and parking still offer a payment plan on coachella.com.

Is it cheaper to camp or stay in a hotel?

Camping, by a lot. Car camping is $160 for the site plus tax, $40 each for four people, against about $590 per person for a shared hotel room for three nights at the 2025 average. Hotel guests also need a $150 shuttle pass or a ride every night.

How much money should I bring to Coachella per day?

Coachella is cashless, so bring a card, not cash. Plan $40 to $150 per person per day for food and drink inside, depending on how much you eat at camp, and bring an empty plastic bottle for the free water refill stations.

Is it worth going VIP at Coachella?

VIP costs about $700 more than general admission and gets you into the separate VIP areas inside the festival. It does not include camping or a hotel, which are booked and paid for separately. For most groups, the same $700 goes further on a better place to sleep.

The bottom line

Coachella is a $549 to $1,399 pass wrapped in another $300 to $1,850 of everything else, and the everything else is the part you control. Camp instead of booking a hotel, take Weekend 2, refill your water for free, and the weekend costs about a quarter of the premium version.

For another event weekend broken down the same way, see what F1 Las Vegas costs, and for a weekend where one person is not paying at all, who pays for the bachelorette party.
